5 Foods You Thought Were Alkaline
Alkaline foods are the best fuel for our body and the best alkaline foods are plant-based.
However, not all plant-based foods are alkaline. Here are 5 “thought to be alkaline foods” which really aren’t.
Tofu has long been a vegetarian’s best friend but tofu is no health food. Tofu is made from soy, which in most cases is genetically modified if you’re living in the U.S.A.
Tofu is always recommended for its high protein level, but it has protease inhibitors which make it difficult for your body to absorb protein. It also contains phytoestrogens which are hormone disruptors linked to breast cancer.
Tofu dehydrates the body and robs it of minerals. Dr Sebi said that soy causes anaemia because it robs the body of iron. We recommend vegans and vegetarians skip the tofu.
It’s been long known in Asian nations that soybeans are toxic when raw. This is why throughout Asia soy is always fermented or cooked before consumed and although often used it is never consumed in large quantities.
America is now the leading producer of soybeans in the world. Soybeans are now one of the most genetically modified foods in America along with corn. Soy and corn are ubiquitous nowadays finding their way in all the food products we love today. We can find it in chocolate, ice cream and yoghurt among other things. In fact, it’s hard to find any processed foods that don’t contain either soy or corn in the ingredients.
Spinach has been recommended for its high iron content by doctors, scientists, even Popeye. Popeye’s love of spinach was actually due to a mistake by German scientist Erich Von Wolf when he misplaced a decimal point, which caused people to think spinach had 10 times the iron that it actually has.
Although almost always found on an alkaline food list, it is on the acid side but very close to the border with a ph of 6.8. Far from being the most harmful substance, it was even on Dr Sebi’s food list at one time.
Dr Sebi updated and changed his list from time to time in order to provide the best dietary recommendations for us all.
We’ve all grown up hearing about how carrots are so good for us especially our eyes. Carrots are a hybrid created in Holland by crossing the wild yam and the Queen Anne’s lace. As a result, carrots contain starch. Starchy foods are acidic because starch becomes carbonic acid in the body. Therefore starchy vegetables are all acidic; this includes rice and potatoes.
I’m sure this one will long be debated. Garlic is recommended in almost every book on natural cures because of its antifungal properties, anti-cancer properties, its ability to lower blood pressure and a host of other health benefits.
However, garlic is very acidic it contains oxide of allyl, this damage and weakens the cell membrane. Italian soldiers were known to put garlic on their bullets in World War 2 because they knew no matter where they hit their target as long as they hit somewhere, it would kill them. Garlic can irritate the digestion tract so avoid it if you have stomach or digestion problems.
If this has peaked your interest we highly recommend learning more about real alkaline foods as taught by Dr Sebi.
