What is the Dr Sebi Diet
The Dr Sebi diet or ‘cleanse’ also known as the African bio mineral balance was used by Dr Sebi while he administered his cures to his patients. Essentially, it’s a vegan diet that consists of what he calls ‘electric foods’ or alkaline foods.
Dr Sebi and the Usha research institute recommend this diet for people taking their healing products.
The diet is vegan so it doesn’t include any meat or dairy products but it also excludes food containing starch. It does so because these foods are acid forming and electric foods must be alkaline.
Consuming meat produces uric acid in the body, consuming dairy products produces lactic acid in the body and consuming starch produces carbonic acid. Acid foods create mucus in the body and robs the body’s cells of oxygen.
Electric foods however feed the body, because the human body is electrical it requires an ‘electric’ food.
The African bio mineral balance consists of fruits, vegetables, nuts, teas and ancient grains. Among these recommended are avocados, mangos, figs, dates, kale, watercress, mushrooms, quinoa, amaranth, wild rice and more. These are the foods that are going to nourish the body and not cause mucus to accumulate in the body.

Read ingredient labels
It won’t be easy for most people to give up certain foods or soft drinks, but a great way to start is to read food ingredient labels. This is a good habit and an absolute necessity to stay conscious about what you’re eating and drinking. In the beginning while you are not eating based on the nutritional guide, this awareness will give you incentive to change your habits as you progress. Later when you do start to adopt the diet, if you do stray, you can still keep conscious of what you ate.
Snacking the right way
Snacking can be quite a compulsive habit but that doesn’t mean it has to be a bad one. Most people like a snack now and then but instead of reaching for a chocolate bar or a bag of chips why not try something like banana nut ice cream, or create your own trail mix of walnuts, raisins and other dried fruits if you want some quick and easy sofa snacks.
Learn the approved foods
Dr Sebi has prepared a list of foods that can be eaten under this diet. Once you commit and really decide to strictly follow the diet it’s important to not stray from the approved food list. You may at first feel like it’s impossible, that’s completely normal and expected.
In fact it is hard, especially in today’s society with the wrong foods being pushed on us from all directions. This is why you must be prepared mentally as well as emotionally, you must equip yourself with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed before going on the journey.
Start drinking more water
Most of us do not drink enough water, we all know that water is one of the cornerstones of good health but we just don’t get enough of it. Water is essential to cleanse our bodies, maintain healthy brain and body functions as well as a whole host of other benefits.
Additionally, a number of Dr. Sebi’s products such as his Bromide Plus Powder contain herbs such as Bladderwrack that have laxative effects and promote urination to remove toxins, therefore you must drink more water to replenish this and keep yourself hydrated.
He suggests drinking up to one gallon of spring water per day. Spring water is recommended because it is naturally alkaline unlike tap water which can be high in chloride and other contaminants.
Add more whole foods to your existing diet
Start to include more whole foods in your diet on a daily basis. This can be anything from your favorite fruit to a fresh fillet of fish. The main idea here is to consume more whole foods in place of packaged foods which are full of additives. Avoiding these additives will help you later on in your journey as many of these things are addictive. Refined sugar is extremely addictive and cause us to have food cravings.
Learning some cooking
You’ll start to see this becoming necessary as it’s very hard to find food products or restaurants that have options inline with this particular diet. If you’re serious about following this diet and way of eating you must equip yourself with a set of easy alkaline food recipes that you can fall back on instead of junk such as take-out, microwaved or processed food.
After you take preparing meals into your own hands you will start to see endless options available. Once you get the hang of things you’ll discover how you can take your favorite dishes and remake them with ingredients from Dr Sebi’s food list. You’ll be able to enjoy the same meals you always have and go from acid to alkaline without sacrificing flavor.
